Hot Wax is a falling-block puzzle game where you place candles and then light them up to create slowly-unfolding chain reactions.
The game currently features 3 game modes with 3 more on the way:
🕯️ Ritual: reach a set goal of points in as little time as possible.
🧽 Penance: clear up a mass of wax with as few flames as possible.
🔥 Eternal: endless mode where you'll be trying to reach the highest scores you can.
🥊 (WIP) Slow-Burn: training mode where you set the difficulty and it won't change unless you change it.
👑 (WIP) Glory: place all of a number of pieces to finally set it all on fire with just one flame.
📅 (WIP) Service: a new seeded daily challenge every day.
Each of these modes has three different difficulties, except for Slow-Burn and Service. The game also features some 30+ palettes to unlock as you play the different modes.
Can be played entirely either with a keyboard or with a gamepad.

Hot Wax is currently an Itch io exclusive. (though it is also available through our Patreon) It will come to Steam eventually, when we update the game with the 3 missing gamemodes. This was originally Remy's entry for Ludum Dare #55! The Ludum Dare version was made in 72 hours and had to fit the theme "Summoning". It was made with the fantasy console Pico-8 and you can still play that version, along with the more polished postjam version right on the Pico-8 website, it's even mobile-compatible, or you can download it for free further down on this page.

Hello, super concept très bien réalisé très joli... Le mode penance un peu frustrant même en difficulté minimum mais tout de même addictif, skill issue de ma part j'imagine.
Je souhaitais vous signaler un potentiel bug. Je viens d'installer le jeu sur mac monterey (après quelques parties sur PC sans inconvénient) et toutes les parties que je lance commencent par ces pièces : rose rouge orange vert vert, puis un enchaînement flamme rose rose rose en boucle. Est-ce une bug connu ?
Oui, sous Linux et Mac apparemment, cf ce post un peu plus bas.
Edit: la version 1.0d semble avoir corrigé le problême, au moins sous Linux.

Any plans for an Android version? I wanna play this on my handheld. Been playing the Pico 8 version, but would love those juicy graphics upgrades.

Very cool concept!
I cannot enjoy most of the modes because the block randomizer stops at some point, only showing pink blocks (and fortunately still flames and skulls).
EDIT: I appreciate how you departed from PICO-8 aesthetics on this entry (not sure since when you did that but I like the new font, etc.). I saw you had a PICO-8 prototype though (surprised it’s not a SUGAR prototype but it was nice to get a super lightweight car to play with my PICO-8 binary). I’m surprised it was already so polished! And it didn’t have the pink block bug so it was quite nice to play even with just the standard mode.
The chain combustion even slowed down the game from 30 to 15 FPS!
Thanks! We're not aware of the bug you're mentioning, can you tell us what OS you're playing on please? Also, to be clear, you mean that you were only getting pink S pieces? Does this happen every run?
I've been having a similar issue with the mac build, after the first couple of pieces I get nothing but straight white candles (and the flames and bombs, fortunately)

Same bug, on Linux (komehara seems to be on Linux user too). Basically, on any mode, after 5 or 6 tetrominoes I get the first flame, then only S or powerups (flames, bombs etc...).
